About The Role

We have a unique opportunity for a Principal Geotechnical Engineer to join our Geotechnical team in our Shropshire office.

This is a great opportunity to demonstrate your sound technical skills whilst working in an engaging and collaborative team. You will provide technical leadership, mentoring and advice for the team, while delivering solutions for numerous clients.

You will be expected to provide a wide range of geotechnical support to the business. You will also have the passion and drive to be involved with major geotechnical projects across a range of infrastructure projects.

We are looking for someone who is keen to keep developing their skills and explore all that you can do across our expanding organisation, with opportunities to share your knowledge along the way.

As a Principal Geotechnical Engineer, you will manage an established and growing team providing support and advice to the wider Richter business and clients as well as acting as task lead on projects. You will lead or assist in the delivery of Geotechnical input to projects. You will also be required to provide technical guidance and support to less experienced junior engineers and technicians. There will be opportunities for a wider degree of responsibilities and roles within the Geotechnical team aimed at developing your career as a Geotechnical specialist.

Responsibilities:

  • Communicate with the Client and with other engineers to understand project requirements.
  • Direct research and investigations to develop a clear understanding of the ground conditions at a project site.
  • Direct the planning, specification and management of site investigations and laboratory testing programmes.
  • Collate and analyse field and laboratory data and undertake analyses related to the project design.
  • Supervise teams in the development of project specific design solutions.
  • Undertake geotechnical design and prepare detailed geotechnical reports
  • Develop Client relationships and manage the training and development of other team members.
  • Continually develop profession skills and competence.
  • Attend sites and project where required to assist with site inspections and surveys.
  • Ensure projects are delivered in accordance with the agreed budget and timescales.
  • Oversee the monitoring costs and programming of projects and ensure information is provided to ensure prompt invoicing of fees.

About You

Essential Criteria:

  • BEng or MEng degree in Civil Engineering or a Geology related subject.
  • A minimum of 15 years’ experience in geotechnical design and construction and a good working knowledge of ground conditions in the United Kingdom.
  • The ability to anticipate and interpret ground conditions and to develop accurate ground models from site investigation and desk study information.
  • Significant experience of geotechnical analysis design of earthworks and structures for example shallow and deep foundations, retaining walls and slopes.
  • The ability to lead teams working on projects.

  • The ability to organise your own work and time management and supervise less experiences team members
  • Good communication skills and ability to develop win-win situations
  • A self-motivated team player with the ability to lead design teams.
  • A ‘can do’ attitude towards tasks and the ability to ask questions to resolve uncertainties.
