About The Role


We are seeking a diligent and proactive Assistant Financial Accountant to join our Finance team in our Birmingham city centre office. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone looking to build a career in financial accounting while contributing to the smooth financial operations of our business.
 
The Assistant Financial Accountant will be joining an experienced and supportive team.  The role is responsible for Financial Accounting for several entities within the group.  As such, it gives you the opportunity to liaise with and build relationships with key teams across the wider business.
 
The ideal candidate will have their AAT Level 4 or ACCA/CIMA Foundation and be looking to obtain their Chartership in the future.  They will have proven experience within financial accounting or Bookkeeping within a commercial environment. 
 
Please note this is an office based role. 
 
Key responsibilities:
Process and manage accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions.
Reconcile bank accounts, supplier statements, and intercompany accounts in Sage.
Input journal entries.
Maintain accurate records of invoices, receipts, and payments.
Prepare suggested weekly payment schedules for consideration by Financial Controller.
Maintain schedule of direct debits and standing orders.
Maintain Intercompany nominal accounts across all group and associated companies.
Provide month end reports for directors of associated companies.
Review nominal accounts for month end close.
Assist in the month end close process.
Generate month end reports for removal of intercompany profits for consolidation to group accounts.
Prepare and submit VAT returns and ensure compliance with tax regulations.
Liaise with external accountant for submission of annual accounts and tax calculation.
Assist in audits as needed.
Respond to financial queries from stakeholders, suppliers, and customers.
Ensure compliance with accounting standards as directed by Finance Director.
Line management of an Accounts Administrator.

About You

Essential Criteria:
  • AAT Level 4/ ACCA foundation/ CIMA foundation or equivalent accounting qualification (or working towards).
  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and other office tools.
  • Proficiency in Sage software.
  • Knowledge of accounting principles and financial processes.
The Individual:
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping.
  • Strong organisational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
