About The Role

We currently have an opportunity for a Principal Technician to join our engineering design team in Warrington. This is a great opportunity to join a dynamic, fun and successful team.

Our Engineering Technicians are a key member of our engineering design teams.  You will be the given the opportunity to work on a broad range of infrastructure projects as well as mentor and develop junior colleagues. Responsibilities:

To carry out this role successfully, you will be responsible for, but not limited to, the following duties:

  • Exercise oversight over numerous projects to ensure staff and resources are deployed effectively.
  • Lead numerous multidisciplinary drafting teams.
  • Set a high standard of personal professional integrity in keeping with company values and corporate standards and proactively ensure senior design team members achieve the same.
  • Review and audit the application of company procedures by drafting teams in your charge, Take appropriate action to ensure best practice is maintained and oversights rectified.
  • Ensure open and constructive technical and managerial communication between drafting teams is maintained at all times.
  • Exercise oversight over numerous multidisciplinary drafting teams providing technical support and directly intervening as required.
  • Engage mastery level competence to ensure the full capabilities of drafting tools and software a Technician has at their disposal such as AutoCAD, REVIT, and Microstation.
  • Maintain a personal development action plan set and achieve personal professional development goals to achieve expertise in agreed drafting and BIM competencies.  Pursue continued professional development and keep a record of the same.
  • Act as mentor for staff working towards EngTech MICE status. 
  • Take a principal role in the management of electronic information including preparation and issue of multiple drawing and document schedules.
  • Proactively drive all CAD and BIM work in your teams to ensure they meet the commercial requirements of the project and the company as a whole.  Ensure drawing change is proactively managed in an efficient and cost effective manner.

About You

Essential Criteria:

  • Advanced training in effective use of full spectrum of at least 2 CAD packages such as AutoCAD, MicroStation, Revit etc.
  • Advanced IT skills including MS Office.
  • Minimum 10 years’ experience of technical drawing using CAD in a consultancy environment.
  • Minimum 6 years’ experience of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in a consultancy environment.
  • Demonstrated mastery of Civil Engineering drafting and practice, particularly Temporary Works.
  • Expertise in the execution of “multi-discipline” drawings and creation of general arrangement drawings and details working with the engineering team.
  • Expertise in the drawing of steel, concrete, masonry and timber and commonly occurring temporary works equipment such as scaffold, RMD, Mabey and MGF equipment.
  • Highly developed ability to produce bending schedules.
  • Expertise is civil and structural engineering terminology.

  • Ability in clash detection process and software.
  • Highly developed ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Highly developed ability to work to programme deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written English.
  • Strong attention to detail,
  • Highly developed ability to ensure the team achieves programme deadlines.
  • Good communication skills and ability to express ideas.
